Submitting Updates to GRANDMA

If you make changes to your copy of the GRANDMA database, we would like to receive a copy of your work. Users who have made only a few changes probably will find it easiest to print an edited family group chart or other report, or simply to send us a note with the new information. A form for this purpose may be found in the /Manual directory of the GRANDMA 7 CD. Mail updates to:

California Mennonite Historical Society
Fresno Pacific University
1717 S. Chestnut Ave., Box 2300
Fresno, CA 93702

You may also e-mail the information.

Users who have made most of their changes to a particular family line should use the Brother’s Keeper Split Database function to create a smaller file that can easily be sent as an e-mail attachment. Files larger files than 10 MB will require copying onto a disk and sent through the mail. This function is well-documented in the Brother’s Keeper manual or on-screen help files. Databases can be split to include all ancestors of a particular person or all descendants of a particular person. Don’t worry if some of the data in the new database is duplicated from the original CD-ROM files. In fact, we need some duplicated information so that we can link the new data to the existing data.

Users who have made extensive changes to individuals in many different families may need to send a complete copy of their database. In order to send such a large file, it will be necessary to compress the files so that they fit on a CD. Contact Jay Hubert if you need assistance sending very large files.

Users who have created genealogical databases using programs other than Brother's Keeper may send their data as a gedcom file. Such files should be sent to Jay Hubert.

Note to users who have updated previous versions of GRANDMA

Many people who purchased earlier versions of GRANDMA may have made changes to those databases. These changes will not be lost when installing GRANDMA 7, since the installation program copies it to a different directory than those which contained earlier GRANDMA file sets. At the same time, those changes will not automatically be updated. Unless those changes were submitted to us before the submission deadline, they will not appear in the version 7 database. This may create an inconvenient situation, since there is no automatic or easy way to transfer such changes from one database to another. The only options are to manually enter the changes again into the GRANDMA 7 database, or submit them to us now and wait for them to appear in a later database release.
